PARK CITY- "We haven't won region championships since 1986 when we were a 2A school so this is a big deal" says Mr.Potts, assistant of girls volleyball.
Last nights match against judge has left Park City still undefeated at 5-0. Park City took the first set, but lost some composure in the second. They regained their leader position in the third set by a tight margin, and were down 20-11 in the fourth set. The girls pulled off a comeback deep in the fourth, making the score 20-18, yet ended up losing the set 25-18. The fifth set, the game breaker, was dominated by Park City.
Having played everyone once, the miners have kicked off the second round of games with this second game against judge. Park City went undefeated in the first round, so the pressure was onto keep the victories coming.
Judge being our longtime rival school really fired the girls up to come out with a win.
"At the beginning of our season we started out a little slow and we weren't quite clicking as a team. But things have really turned around and we are having phenomenal success," comments Hannah Winkelmen on her team's progress. The team has been working so much better this season compared to previous years.
Nicole Bishop's height and talent makes it nearly impossible for the ball slip past her. Hallie Magee made some incredible saves in last nights game, which gave a huge boost to making the win. Newcomer Lizzie Silverstein brought the team to victory during the final set.
There are two more significant games to determine the region champions: the first game will be next Tuesday October 7 at Waterford; the second game will be played at Wasatch, on Tuesday October 14.
Mr. Potts is confident in at least one victory out of these two games. Varsity player Hannah Winkelmen says, "Yes, i think if we keep practicing as hard as we have been and keep the intensity up we will make it to state this year".
