Ho Ho...Humbug

As the holiday season arrives with the snow, I can't help but feel a bit cynical. Sure, I love Christmas. I love the excitement, the lights, the sights and the warmth of the people around me.

But I can't help but think about what Christmas has become: consumerism at its finest.

People sleep in parking lots and trample others to get that cheap dvd player or ipod. Kids throw tantrums about the newest batch of elmo toys. Full-grown adults fight over toys. "Santa" rules Christmas.

I love music, and one of my favorite guilty pleasures is Lily Allen. Her song "The Fear" seems to have it right; "I want loads of clothes and f***loads of diamonds... I am a weapon of massive consumption."

At least I'm not the only one feeling a bit cynical...

mhm

just makes you want to quit your job and give poems to all your friends for christmas. Take that, captilism.
