Champions once again

After a tight final match, Park City emerges victorious in overtime for the second year in a row

It was a long road for the miners that brought them to the final moment of their High School soccer careers, but if anybody desverves a victory it is the Park City boys.

Working hard all season, with what some people would call the strongest senior class in memory, the boys dominated the field thrughout the season. With a shining record of 16-3, the Miners were the team to beat in their region. Going into the playoffs, they knew facing Logan would be one of their toughest feats.

After flying through the quarter and semi finals of the playoffs with blowout scores, the Miners nearly stumbled in the semi-final match against Ogden, but scored late in the second half to advance to the championship.

Logan had given them trouble early in the year, scratching the Miner's record with a 0-3 loss in the first game of the season.

Logan was able to score early in the game, putting  stress on the Miners to gain ground. But the Miner's answered with a goal of there own later in the first half on a free kick rebound by Tommy Martin.

After a scoreless second half, and after a failed penalty kick attempt, the game was pushed into overtime. After playing from side to side pretty evenly, the Miners finally caught a quick break down to Logan's net, where a perfectly placed cross by Sopmore Anthony Alcox to Michael Glenn, where an amazing aeriel maneuver knocked the winning shot into the net.

This is the second year Park City has been named state champions, and they are looking for three. But with a strong senior class departing to college after this year, the underclassmen with have to step p and fill some big shoes.
