You would think that five solid months of snow would impact the Park City High School's track team, but looking at their last meet, you wouldn't even know. The 3A Park City High School competed against many 4A schools in their last meet and performed considerably well.
"The first meet is always a challenge because you're trying to get back into it," said sophomore Hannah Wilson. "It was a lot of fun though, very competitive."
This year, more than 81 people decided that they would give the track team a try adding to their relatively smaller team last year. Another addition to the team this year are throwers who Park City did not have last year.
Coach Jeffery Wyant also commented on the new improvement. "Having people to throw in events- that's huge. Last year was hard without them, we have more variety now."
Even with the snow, the team will not let up. The goals for this year include placing in the top three at state and for girls, placing in the top four of eight. With running against the top five 4A schools, Park City is at an extreme advantage.
"Running against larger schools helps us a lot. I now hope that we will do better than normal running against 3A schools like us." Wyant said.
Many returners to the team from last year are really expected to do well and maybe even break a few records.
"I really expect Erik Walker and Blake Thorn to do extremely well this year in sprints. We are looking forward to big things, as for longer distance we hope that a new two mile record will be set this year for the school," Wyant said. "This year's season, I'm expecting it to be much better than last."
Park City hopes to work as a team to win state this year, with more variety in the team and big things expected- we hope that the Miners can achieve their goals.
