Artist of the Month

Senior Kalee Chester has been named artist of the month.
Senior Kalee Chester has recently been named March's artist of the month.  She has been interested in art since elementary school.  Chester says she was "always the girl in the back of the class doodling in her notebook."

Chester took her first art class when she was in seventh grade and "hasn't stopped since."  Now that she is a senior, she has become the Sterling Scholar for Studio Art.  In April, Chester will begin the interview process.  She will show her portfolio and compete with other students in the region.  If she were to win, Chester would recieve a scholarship to any school in Utah, which she says would "mean the world" to her.  She feels "blessed" and "hopes to win them over."

Recently, Chester has been "working on heroes.  The pieces have been very emotionally charged," says Art teacher Sue Galusha.  Chester has been working with the Vietnam Memorial.  "There were a lot of soldiers who passed away, and it is important to me to portray [them]," she says.

The artist that Chester admires most, she says is Georgia O'Keefe.  "I love her strokes," she says.  "The movement of her brush is so fluid.  It is simple but beautiful."

Galusha says that "Kalee does amazing work," and Chester says she is honored to the artist of the month.

Unsigned.

This is a good story, but who wrote it. I saw that there was an unsigned editorial, but I thought that everything else would be attributed to an author.
