For two weeks every year, Park City is completely transformed into a buzzing metropolitan mecca for filmmakers and movie gurus. Main Street’s galleries and obscure shops are turned into exclusive clubs and promotional lounges. Streets are lined with guardrails and loud people from California and New York. Buses overflow with people, sans skis. Traffic becomes an issue.

As the holiday season arrives with the snow, I can't help but feel a bit cynical. Sure, I love Christmas. I love the excitement, the lights, the sights and the warmth of the people around me.

But I can't help but think about what Christmas has become: consumerism at its finest.
